H Mart to Renovate and Add Food Court on Route 70 in Cherry Hill

H Mart, the nation’s largest Asian supermarket chain with nearly 100 locations, is planning a major renovation of its 24-year-old Cherry Hill market on Route 70. The renovation will include replacing the closed Beawon – Stacey’s Korean BBQ with an open-concept food court, bakery, and mercantile store, according to a site plan application under review by the Township Planning Board on April 21.

As the Asian population in Camden County has nearly tripled since 1990, the demand for specialty Asian ingredients has grown. The county’s Asian population increased from 11,504 in 1990 to 32,598 in 2020.

H Mart competes with local markets like Hung Vuong Food Market and Sunseng Supermarket in the region. Founded in 1982, H Mart (originally “Han ah reum”) first opened in Queens, NY, before expanding nationwide.
