IKEA is celebrating 40 years in the Philadelphia region, where it established its U.S. base and launched a network of large-format stores. Since 2004, the company has operated locations in Conshohocken—home to its U.S. headquarters—and South Philadelphia, each over 300,000 square feet and employing more than 200 people.
To mark the anniversary, IKEA is opening a third area location this week: a smaller-format “Plan and Order Point” in Cherry Hill’s Ellisburg Shopping Center. This follows a successful test of a pop-up kitchen design center at the Cherry Hill Mall two years ago.
From its 800-employee headquarters, IKEA now manages 52 U.S. stores and plans to add 11 more this year, along with 16 design-focused Plan and Order Points—including Cherry Hill—where customers can plan and order custom kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms for later pickup or delivery.
